Backpacking Checklist

Filed in:

In a little over 24 hours, I’ll be hopping on a plane to see my best friend, Kasey, and Europe! I’ve been counting down the days since I booked the ticket. The most important things for me when considering the trip were:
#1) Having fun #2) Taking a million photos #3) Eating lots of food (directly related to #1).

With this in mind, as well as all the plane and train hopping we’re going to be doing (7 flights, and 2 trains)- we’ll be kinda-sorta backpacking through Europe! I didn’t want to bring a giant suitcase that I’d have to check into baggage and roll on old cobblestone while walking from hostel to hostel- so I opted to purchase a Kelty 44-Redwing backpacking backpack! It’s the perfect size! It’s big enough to hold a TON of stuff, and small enough that it’ll still be able to be a carry-on. I’m not a girly girl, but I’m definitely not a carefree hippy child (although I wish I was cool enough to be one). I love dresses and shoes and all those fun things- but I also don’t mind if I have to stay in a hostel, re-wear a couple tshirts, and kind of bum it every now and then. Kasey’s the same way, so using a backpack is the perfect option. I’m still able to bring lots of cute clothes, but I’ve had to limit my shoes to just 2 pairs (ahhh). I have so many liquids that I was afraid it wouldn’t fit into a quart-sized back, but I jammed those suckers in there and I’m good! I wasn’t sure how to carry the liquids, but I ended up going to the travel toiletries section at Target and bought SO MUCH STUFF. I even bought a mini mirror/hair brush for my camera bag because my hair gets crazy tangly- as in I-get-dreadlocks-in-a-couple-hours-tangly.

I had so much fun prepping and planning for this trip, that I thought I’d share my packing list for anyone that may be inspired to go on a trip over the pond, too!

If you’d like to see more about what to pack/what not to pack- this site helped me a bunch in preparing what to pack for this trip. I’m definitely not an expert backpacker- but this is what works for me so I figured I’d share it!
